Filip Barankiewicz has been named artistic director of the Czech National Ballet beginning in 2017, according to National Theatre director Jan Burian. Mr Barankiewicz was an award-winning dancer in his native Poland and is principal dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet, as well as a permanent guest dancer and trainer with the Czech company. He will replace current director Petr Zuska.
The Dec 2014 performance of Martinů's opera What Men Live By (Czech Philharmonic, Jiří Bělohlávek, conductor) has been nominated for an International Opera Award 2015 in the "Rediscovered Work" category, according to the awards foundation. The awards, in the form of grants, provide support for further artistic development. Winners will be announced at London's Savoy Theatre Apr 26.

The Czech Post Office on Jan 20 issues a 40x23mm postage stamp commemorating the birth of Czech composer/conductor Vítězslava Kaprálová (Jan 24, 1915). The 17-crown stamp was created by artist Marina Richterová.
