Music on Bike: A Real ‘Musical Journey’

Music on Bike

A quick glance at the map shows where you can bike to music June 6.

Hop on your bike this Saturday, and ride to any of 12 Moravian ‘music stations’ for a free concert … and even one wine-tasting!

Who says the differences between music and sports cannot be bridged? On June 6 they can.

As part of the 20th Concentus Moraviae music festival, ″Music on the Bike″ offers you a unique chance to hear concerts in interesting buildings – churches, castles, a synagogue, an agriculture cooperative – in the Lednice and Valtice region of Moravia. There’s even one stop in Austria near the Czech border.

Choose as many destinations as you like, starting at 10:30 am; at each station you can hear a free, live concert in a genre from classical to jazz, world to folk music.

As the organizers note, you can plan the route yourself according to your free time, your interest in the historical buildings, your musical preference – or your physical condition.

The idea for Music on the Bike started last year “when we were inspired by similar projects at Festival Gent and Potsdam,” spokesperson Zdenka Kachlová tells Opus Osm. The project gets its wheels from some of the foremost South Moravia regional culture institutions and its partners from local government and corporate sponsors.

The Concentus Moraviae Music Festival began May 30 and offers more traditional concerts every day (except June 12) through June 25 at several cities and towns in Moravia.

The festival name comes from Latin for ″to commemorate in a solemn way,″ and thus the concerts feature top quality musicians performing classical, Baroque, sacred, and other music in many churches and castles.
