Take A ‘Mental Vacation’

Opus Osm

Let the music soothe you: Stanislava Mihalcová sings a lullaby, accompanied by Jaroslav Šaroun.

Take a Mental Vacation with this Musical Break

You may not be able to duck all of your duties and obligations during these hot summer days, but you can still enjoy a refreshing “mental vacation” just by listening to soprano Stanislava Mihalcová sing.

Her voice is by turns passionate and reassuring in this short lieder song, a lullaby by Dvořák.

Ms Mihalcová is accompanied by pianist Jaroslav Šaroun, and they also appeared with clarinetist Otakar Hájek in concert June 23 at the tiny church in Karlík.

Ms Mihalcová has specialized in Baroque music, often appearing in Handel’s opera Rinaldo, a role you can look for her in this summer. You may also find her in future appearances with Collegium 1704 and other Baroque ensembles, although as she tells Opus Osm, she also enjoys performing works by French composers such as Poulenc and Debussy, as well as Czech moderns such as Janáček and Martinů. — oo
