Spring - and Easter - come to the Czech Republic

Here’s a brief round-up of some of the main concerts featuring Czech compositions or performers for the Easter holiday:

Tuesday, April 19:
Ad Monumentum Venimus (Visit to Christ’s Tomb) performed by the Tiburtina Ensemble, Church of St Simon and St Jude, 7:30 pm

Bach’s St John’s Passion, Vivaldi’s Stabat Mater, and other works, performed by a variety of Czech choirs, chamber groups, and orchestras, St Nicholas Church on Old Town Square, 8 pm

Wednesday, April 20:
Works by Bach performed by Prague’s En Arche choir, with Czech actor Josef Somr reading passages from the Gospel of St Mark, Church of St Simon and St Jude, 7:30 pm

Thursday, April 21:
Porta Coeli by Petr Korínek, liturgical text, performed by the Prague Jazz Quintet, Church of St Simon and St Jude, 7:30 pm

Good Friday (“Great” Friday, in Czech), April 22:
Works by Zelenka, Michna and others, performed by Ludus Musicus and Guests, Czech Museum of Music, 6 pm

Easter Concert, Musica Bohemica and The Spiritual Quintet, Theatre of the Estates, 7 pm

Easter Sunday, April 24:
Zelenka’s Magnificat, and other works, Church of St Salvatore, Prague 1, 6 pm

Dvořák’s Mass in D Major, and other works, performed by Ludus Musicus and Guests, Czech Museum of Music, 7 pm

Easter Monday, April 25:
Martinů’s The Miracles of Mary, National Theatre, 7 pm

Tuesday, April 26:
Zelenka’s Magnificat, and other works, Church of St Salvatore, Prague 1, 7 pm

Bach’s St John’s Passion performed by Musica Florea, Church of St Simon and St Jude, 7:30 pm –oo
